Meaning
Congratulations! You have chosen the Fall season to D2R and D2Go hiking! I believe Fall Season was made for Hiking!
One of God’s awesome Master work of art and explosion of colors: The golden poplars, the crimson dogwood and sassafras, the scarlet red oak and maples and birch, and the purple sumac shouldered together over rolling hills. No better way to take it all in than by lacing up your hiking boots and hitting the trail to D2R at its best
Fall & God
After the heat of the summer, the coolness of Autumn brings relief and refreshing times!
The same way in our walk with God sometimes too much going on in the heat of the moment, too much to do lists leave us dry and exhausted!
Let us take some time out to enjoy His Presence in the coolness of the Fall! Let’s D2R and be refreshed as we behold the transformation of beauty and colors of the fall! This will be a good time to let go and let God take care of our burned out souls and bring us His Peace and Freshness back to us!
Goals & Gains
Most important Goal as we will keep on repeating over and over is the idea to Disconnect from all electronics to Reconnect through nature to God, ourselves and each other!
What’s not to love about fall hiking? In September, the bugs begin to disappear and you can feel that first cool snap telling you that fall has arrived. October brings in the color with peak foliage across most of the United States. In early November, enough leaves have fallen that you now have unencumbered views.
Here are just a few of the benefits of hiking in the fall.
No crowds. Ideal for D2R! School started, people are back to work and you can have some of your favorite trails to yourself if you time it right.
Cooler weather. The heat and humidity are gone.
Fewer bugs.
Better views. As the leaves begin to fall in October and November, elusive views open up. And that haze often appearing over the mountains in the summer and spring disappears, offering clear sight for miles.
Sounds are different. the crunch of leaves under your feet. A quiet that starts to settle in when fall arrives. Animals are less active, and there are fewer people on the trails.
First Steps & Logistics
First thing to keep in mind is foliage peak colors in the are that you choose to hike!
If you’re going to be out hiking in autumn, keep track of the fall foliage maps. You’ll want to try and plan some of your favorite hikes to hit peak color.
Be aware of the terrain, it may be different to what it seems since most of the times it will be covered with leaves! While the leaves may crunch as you walk and appear dry, they often trap moisture underneath the many layers. It’s not uncommon to hit a patch of leaves and go sliding. Pay attention where you are going every step of the way!
Remember is Hunting Season, STAY VISIBLE, WEAR BRIGHT COLORS!
Bright Hats and vests are things I always carry with me in bright colors to be seen!
Stay on the trail. Don’t go off-trail in areas where hunting is allowed, especially in the early morning and evening. Good hunters are aware of the trails and know hikers may be on them. Wandering off-trail can disrupt the hunters and cause confusion.
Days ARE GETTING SHORTER! You have fewer hours of daylight. It’s best to either start your hike early in the morning or adjust your mileage to ensure you won’t end up hiking in the dark.
Dress in layers , as it can be warmer at first and then get colder as the sun goes down! CHECK OUR SESSION ABOUT WHAT TO WEAR HIKING
Remember always to bring your headlamp!
Check the hours for where you’re hiking. Many parks change their hours with the change in daylight and some mountain areas begin to close roads. Make sure you know when the area is open for hiking.
