Hiking and Technology
The core of Disconnect 2 Reconnect is the idea of leaving all screens behind and step outdoors! We believe technology has many good effects in our society but when we see the latests trends in numbers about the amount of hours we spend in front of some sort of screen call it cell phone, laptops tablets compared to the amount of time we spend outside, we felt the urge to make a change.
The average citizen spends 11 hours looking at a screen each day1
On the other hand, we’re spending less than FIVE percent of our time outside these days2.
Technology can be addictive and can cause long term effects on our mental health, including increasing your chances of experiencing extreme fatigue, stress, and depression3. Interesting enough, the brain of the internet- obsessed resemble those of drug and alcohol addicts4.
Our life has become centered around our phones and screens! We need a break! We need to regain a balance in our life and a very positive and transforming way is by stepping out to spend time in nature….away from screens!
Time outdoors is proven to boost our mood, creativity and productivity5 .
It also reduces stress and symptoms of anxiety or depression6.
The truth is technology and screens will continue to be part of our daily life and it will be our responsibility to take control and keep a balance between time with screens and nature in our lives, for the sake of our own lives and our children!
It all starts with a first step! Put on your boots and lets go hiking!
